Innovation Management at JOPP - Technologies for the Future

The JOPP Group develops pioneering product ideas and highly integrated solutions for the automotive industry, as well as for the defence and aerospace sectors. One example is the JOPP Thermal Management Module, installed in the company’s own electric demonstration vehicle “TherMaBil,” which impresses with its weight- and cost-efficient design while delivering high functionality.

JOPP’s innovation management relies on research projects with universities and research institutes, as well as on practical prototypes. Combining existing series products with innovative ideas has, for example, led to the development of patented JOPP liquid multiway valve. This approach enables comprehensive system solutions for vehicles, agricultural machinery, and other industrial applications.

All developments are based on JOPP’s in-house technologies, which cover the fields of metal, plastics, and electronics and can also be used in cleanroom environments when necessary. Innovative software solutions, including machine learning, are also integrated to enhance functionality and efficiency.

Innovative use of experience: efficient heat regulation with JOPP

JOPP utilises the full-surface contact between cooling surfaces and cell walls to enable efficient thermal regulation in lithium-ion cells.
 

In order to achieve high energy density, longevity, efficiency and safety, the temperature of lithium-ion cells must be precisely controlled and regulated. JOPP contributes its many years of experience in the design and manufacture of plastic tubes and has developed a special heat connection concept: Full-surface contact between the cell walls and temperature-controlled surfaces, which are cooled by liquid-fed plastic tubes, ensures optimum heat transfer. Various battery module solutions have already been developed and successfully implemented on this basis.

The requirements for an intelligent, efficient and cost-effective thermal management system are particularly high in the field of electromobility. Highly efficient powertrains mean that electric vehicles have very little waste heat left over that can be used for the interior and battery. To ensure longevity and safety, the sensitive lithium-ion battery also only allows a narrow temperature range. This system regulates this reliably, whether for the battery, electric motor, HV power electronics or interior - in every driving situation.
